October's Projects

October was very productive for me both for my projects and for my personal life. I'm looking forward to the rest of the year. Now for the projects this past month.

Video: My Least Favorite Vinland Saga Characters

I'm going to be honest, this video is probably my least favorite so far. I only made it out of obligation to the video before it, and I didn't have fun writing or editing it. It's also my least viewed video so far, and I can't blame people. I don't like it either.

It's nothing special or serious. It's literally just me yapping about what the title says for, like, 20 minutes? It's not necessarily a failure in my opinion. Flop is probably more what I'd call it. Let's move on.

Video: My Childhood Crushes

Now this is more like it. I did enjoy writing and editing this video, even though I was sick while I did it. This video's title is also pretty self-explanatory. I wanted to make a video about the fictional men I crushed on throughout my life because there was one outlier and then a theme slowly developing (in my opinion). There were many characters listed in this video and of course I had to mention Zayne from Love and Deepspace because it's become a theme on my channel, I guess. I think a lot of people would be embarrassed to admit they've ever crushed on fictional characters, but not me. They make up my personality. I also mentioned a bunch of streamers I'm either acquainted with or am friends with, so the links were plentiful in this video's description.

Video: This Looks Familiar...| Are CalebMC the Modern Dollengangers?

I had a lot of trouble trying to come up with a name for this video. It ended up being quite simple and I hope it would implore people to click on it.

I enjoyed making this video immensely, even though it took a very long time to edit. This was mostly because, for the first time, I added clips outside of my usual drawing background to add more context to what I was talking about.

Basically, I've known about V.C. Andrews and her works since I was little because my mother is a fan of her books. My Sweet Audrina and The Dollenganger Saga were always laying somewhere around my house, and I watched the 1987 Flowers in the Attic movie with my mother when I was very young. We also watched the Lifetime movie series together when it started airing in 2014, and the first movie of the renewed series was the first movie we watched that year.

When Caleb was revealed as a main love interest in Love and Deepspace it cause a lot of controversy, especially in the United States, because of the previous relationship the game pushed between him and the Main Character. It's quite a long backstory, so I'll keep it as brief as possible. Caleb and MC were lab rats as children, but after the catastrophe mentioned in the game's lore, the two of them were "adopted" by one of the Experimenters, Josephine, who Caleb and MC call "grandma". From the ages of 8 (MC) and 10 (Caleb) the two children were then raised as, and societally seen as, siblings. Caleb was forced into the role of being MC's older brother, which neither of them really liked. This led to many confusing feelings and a lot of yearning for each other, which neither of them acted on until an explosion that took Caleb's right arm, and Josephine's life.

It's an extremely complicated relationship, and, because of how it's portrayed early in the game, way before Caleb was a courtable love interest, it's a very controversial one. I absolutely love this dynamic. The two have a lot in common with Chris and Cathy from the Dollenganger series.

You see, to make another long story short, the Dollenganger Saga is a series of four books telling the story of the Dollenganger children. Four children who lost their father, were told their name Dollenganger wasn't actually their real name, and locked away in an attic by their mother and her parents for three years. Chris, the oldest, and Cathy, the second oldest, were forced to be parents to their much younger twin children, which then caused the two to start developing feelings for each other. The series revolves around the themes of incest, and repeating the sins of the parents. The children were conceived of incest, with their father and mother being half-uncle and niece. So, when Chris and Cathy are locked away with no one else their age to interact with, and going through puberty, they ended up repeating the incestual sins of their parents, and are never able to escape that cycle. The cycle is only broken at the end of the fourth novel, which I will not spoil here.

I'm really proud of this video and how it turned out, so I hope whoever reads this also enjoys it.

This Looks Familiar...

Character Portrait 1: Rudy

I decided that my first portrait should be of Rudy considering he's more affluent than my other characters. Rudy is one of those Bishonen boys, men who are very androgenous or feminine looking. Take Griffith from Berserk or Ash Lynx from Banana Fish as examples. I wanted to focus on Rudy's facial features. Especially his eyes which are heterochromic, but I think I made them too big. I wanted to go for a more realish style but in that process I made his eyes way too big. I'm going to redraw it later, but practice is key, right?

Character Portrait 2: Annie

I was actually planning on making this my PFP for a little while until I could get everything figured out, but then creativity struck me after finishing this one so I figured I'd make a brand new one instead. I really like this one a lot more than Rudy's portrait, probably because I have Annie's look down since I've drawn her a lot already. I noticed I'm getting better at coloring hair the more I color it, so that's good. Annie is goth, but someone who prefers lace. I have a preference toward goth lolita, but it doesn't exactly fit her character well, so it's more Victorian or Romantic goth that she goes for. Similar in regency, but less doll-like. Looking at this drawing gives me joy.
